Before the turn of the new year, Barack Obama posted online about having began a tradition of sharing his reading lists and music playlists with the world each year.
In his post, he explained the tradition’s purpose by saying;
“It was a nice way to reflect on the works that resonated with me and lift up authors and artists from around the world.”
Obama who remains a popular figure the world over also pocked some fun at being a lot less occupied now that he isn’t president any more adding….
“With some extra time on my hands this year to catch up, I wanted to share the books and music that I enjoyed most.”
Barack Obama’s list featured some of music’s most notable names including Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z and Beyonce, as well as new relatively new artists like Chance the Rapper and SZA.
What we noted however, was that in his list was one specific act that hails from the motherland and they are Les Amazones D’Afrique.
Obama listed their song ‘La Dame Et Ses Valises’ as one of 20 that he described in his post, “get him moving”.
Les Amazones d’Afrique are a World Music group that hail from Mali and that particular single is from their album Republique Amazone. It also features singer Nneka.
Obama is famously known to the world to have African roots, having had his family on his father’s side, originate from Kenya.
