Kenya’s First Comedy TV Series Spin-Off! (Video)

Spin Off Definition : is a radio program, television program, video game, film, or any narrative work, derived from one or more already existing works, that focuses, in particular, in more detail on one aspect of that original work (e.g. a particular topic, character, or an event).

Throughout television, we have witnessed the birth of spin-offs that became successes in their own right, right back from the Cosby Show.

Airing back in the late 80s and early 90s, this show was a success and when one of the characters (Denise Huxtable…played by Lisa Bonet)…

…had to go off to college, they formed a spin off show just for her that would even feature visits by members to the ‘Cosby Show’ cast. This spin off became known as ‘A different world’.

Fast forward to present time and the same is true for quite a few famous series, most notably Award winning ‘Black-ish’….

Which spawned the spin off based on character Zoey Johnson (played by Yara Shahidi) called. ‘Grown-ish’.

Well here in Kenya, the TV show Auntie Boss known for its comedy, thanks to vivacious character Varshita (played by Eve D’souza) has earned a spin off based on that character and the show is aptly named after her, ‘Varshita’.

Airing on Maisha Magic East, Varshita may very well be the first Kenyan spin off based on a locally produced comedy drama.

Lupita Nyong’o To Star In THIS Epic Remake

Is there anything this actress can’t do?

Lupita Nyong’o will soon be back on our big screens on a movie rendition to comic book series, Marvel’s Black Panther as we outlined some weeks back in a hilarious story, but this ‘Non-Stop’ star might also be acting in the remake to top selling TV Series and movie ‘Charlie’s Angels’.

As reported by online news source Variety, Lupita has been mentioned alongside ‘Twilight’ actress Kristen Stewart as favorites to star as two thirds of the three girl cast to that remake.

Although made widely popular by Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barymore seventeen years back (in the year 2000), it was actually a creation that aired as a TV series back in the 70s.

(Charlie’s Angels back in the 70’s:Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith in the TV series)

(Charlies reboot in 2000: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu)

After earning an Oscar for her first major on-screen debut, and for a supporting role at that, I’m confident Lupita will be a kick ass Charlie’s angel.

Lupita recently opened up to popular Magazine ‘Sunday Times Style’, about her self-perceived role in the Hollywood film industry (which has on many accounts been described as somehow racist) saying;

“I definitely feel that my mandate on this earth is to expand our understanding of African identity,”

“I want to play women of all walks of life and all places, not just African roles. But, by default, whatever woman I play will be black, and in so doing, it will be expanding our understanding of what that experience is — because it’s not a singular experience.

“Even during my time with Lancôme, they have expanded their range of skin tones, she says. I remember a time in my teens when it was impossible to find my colour of foundation. When I began going on red carpets, we used to have to mix different colours to get the right one for my tone. I don’t have to do that any more, which is a sign of progress.”

Glad to see she’s creating that much impact even outside of her acting job. We now await her performances in both ‘Black Panther’ which is set for an early 2018 release and in the latest Star Wars Franchise which should be out this Christmas, ‘The Last Jedi’.

First Look At Nina Dobrev’s Return To The Vampire Diaries

Guess who’s returning to ‘The Vampire Diaries’? Nina Dobrev.

Nina has returned to the Vampire Diaries for the series finale and we are finally getting a sneak peak of her role in the episode.

On Monday, The CW released a brand new teaser for the forthcoming episode. It’s only ten short seconds, but it gives us our first look at Dobrev’s return.

In the teaser, it looks like Dobrev’s character, Elena Gilbert, is finally awake. The teaser has not given us much to go on, but we are definitely excited that Elena is awake from her long slumber.

We still do have more questions after seeing this teaser but luckily, we won’t have long to wait until the big reveal.

The “Vampire Diaries” series finale airs March 10 on The CW.

The African Actress Set To Feature in a US Popular TV Series

Besides hosting MTV Base’s popular hit show ‘Lip Synch Battle’, being on one of South Africa’s top rated radio stations and just being awesome, we know Pearl Thusi is a big deal because her name is even a title track to an African banger.

(That video currently has over 2 million views and the song was even Record of the Week at Homeboyz Radio).

Yeah well this super fierce emcee is making waves thanks to the fact that she’s landed a regular role in American hit TV series Quantico, news she very elatedly shared via her own social media.

Pearl will reportedly be playing the role of a lawyer struggling to fit in.

Looks like we are making boss moves as a continent. Now if only Taraji and Terrance Howard can take AKA up on his wanting to feature on Empire.

Seen Quantico before? Here’s a trailer.
