Miss Kemunto Names And Confronts Her Rapists On Social Media

Easter may have been a great time for most people but for singer Miss Kemunto, it was not.

The singer best recognized for her work as a back up singer on hit TV show Coke Studio and for her collaboration with Steph Kapella on ‘Only One’, revealed on a series of social media posts, that she’s been raped, even going ahead to tag the perpetrators who happen to be Kenyan Rugby players.

While we are yet to verify the facts, the emotion filled posts received quite the feedback with artists like Phy, Le Band, Swiga and Emma Cheruto taking to Kemunto’s defense posting;

Kemunto explains in vivid detail, the occurrences of that unfortunate night before going ahead to tag the rugby players who from her messages have only responded by way of asking her to take down the story, which she put up on her instagram page as stories.

Here are screenshots of those stories.

Kemunto kept sharing more of her story which gets even more emotional, ending with her revelation of both the perpetrators.

As she follows up her case, we’ll be keeping our prayers with her.

 Before this ordeal, Kemunto had been working to create more music and work on enlarging her brand as a musician.

Here’s footage of her session at HBR.

Miss Kemunto or Kemunto Music also featured on episodes of Jamhuri Festival.

Exclusive Snippet! This Is How DJ Kafii’s EP Is Coming Along

After releasing his African mixtape ‘No Longer Trapped in Africa, DJ Kafii mentioned following it up with an all Kenyan EP to be called Keuriosity and to feature some of our top artists.

Having come a long way from hosting a once a week Saturday afternoon dancehall show on Uptown radio, to touring with Kenya’s number one band Sauti Sol, Kafii’s EP is set to create waves across the continent just as did his MTV Base featured mixtape.

No Longer Trapped In Africa was hosted on DJ Bash’s website which plays host to this #OverdoseHBR deejay’s (his HBR radio show) mixtapes and other Kenyan music exclusives.

We had a chat with DJ Kafii who revealed more about this upcoming music collection saying he’s got his mind on making it a five song EP but refused to talk about which artists he’d be featuring, only hinting that one of them is one of Kenya’s top femcees.

We’ve got some of our sources saying it may be either Fena, Phy or Deal (or all three…. who knows) and while the speculating continues, here’s a snippet of one of the jams.

So which Kenyan female artist do you think it is? Catch DJ Kafii’s show ‘West Connect’ on HBR every Monday from 10am to 11am (CAT).

Sometimes things don’t work out how we want them to but we rise above the challenge regardless.Thank you for being patient with me guys, it means the world to me. I love you all. ♥

-Phy

That was the post that this Taabu singer posted on her instagram earlier in the week after failing to release her brand new hit as expected. Phy who has had considerable success since winning a million Kenyan shillings on the music competition show Maisha Magic, clearly has the most dedicated fans if a delayed music video can incite instagram threats (albeit friendly ones).

While we wait to see what comes of that, we do know that Phy will feature on a Jamhuri Jam session as teased via her instagram… check it out;

Phy had only just two weeks ago teased the video to Siwezi in a tear-filled minute video that you can watch here.

Oh The Feels! Here’s Phy’s Tear Filled Video Teaser

If her jam Taboo/Taabu taught us anything, it’s that Phy Ng’etich is a connoisseur at singing songs that are packed with feels.

This Maisha Superstars winner has achieved major feats since her million shillings win, some of which included ranking high on multiple music charts in East Africa and giving Kenyan classics incredible ‘make-overs’ on her sophomore album ‘BiograPhy’.

While we have enjoyed watching her perform at many shows, she’s about to return to your airwaves on a brand new single whose video Phy teased and it looks like she’s about to do what only she does best…. sing an emotion filled jam.

Not sure if it will be a Ballard or not but either way, history has proven that you can do no wrong with this sultry singer and as the video suggests, we will be fining out just how good Phy’s soon-to-be-latest release will be by the 15th of September 2017.

The Piano Cover To Phy’s Taboo That’s Breaking The Internet

Phy is on a great roll with two albums out, an insane number of shows booked, an exclusive CNN feature and this paino cover that’s breaking the internet.

This singer who has graced our studios numerous times before now has a piano version to her hit love song ‘Taboo’ which she has done with her producer Tim Rimbui and it’ been garnering quite the online reaction being shared over two hundred and fifty times and gaining close to two thousand likes in the few hours that it was put up.

Phy who made her debut onto the music scene doing cover songs made her sophomore album purely out of covers to jams she said she grew up listening to and that influenced her style of music (something she revealed in this exclusive #WBWR interview).

She’s really great at renditions so it really comes as no surprise that this piano rendition is incredibly amazing.

Phy Ngetich Lands Incredible Chance To Represent Kenya on a Global Level

Two albums and a slew of radio hits under her belt, Phy Ngetich is an established singer in her own right but in case anyone doubted it, her recent feature on CNN should set them straight.

This young star was featured on African Voices, a show that showcases the creme de la creme of African movers and shakers and to perhaps give you an inkling of how big a platform this is, previous guests have included Mr. Jailer singer ‘Asa’ and even our very own Caroline Mutoko.

The interview which aired this past weekend and which may later float online later on, had Phy and her legion of fans in an excited frenzy with the singer expressing her joy at having had the chance to represent Kenya in an episode that also starred Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Senegal’s Adamo Sidibe.

Taking to instagram, she posted;

Thankful to God to feature on @cnn @cnnafrica representing Kenya in a big way. I get to also share this episode with @diamondplatnumz @sidibeadamo from Senegal. Take photos of your screens,tag me on them and share them on your socials just to show that Kenyan music can also be on the map. It airs right now at 2:30PM and 6:30PM as well. #CNN #Mamaimadeit

Phy whose career kicked off from a music competition has gone on to collabo with some of the most fierce artists in Kenya as well as release singles that have charted highly on countdowns and which have received impressive airplay.

Her most recent album Biography pays homage to all the Kenyan musicians and songs that she grew up listening to and is out for free streaming and download on YouTube (link on all of her social media bios).

Great way to have started her 2017! Congratulations on the feature Phy!

Exclusive! Phy Opens Up About Life, Music and New Album on #WBWR

Having had a start doing cover songs, Phy kept up the great work releasing hit song after hit song and one album later, this songstress has become a definite household name.

Reaching back to her roots, Phy’s sophomore album, which is aptly named ‘BiograPHY’ is full of incredibly packaged cover songs and is available online for free.

This star recently stopped by Weekend Breakfast where we (herself , her producer Tim Rimbui and I) chatted about music and other things (which you can read about here) but mostly got into the actual album and how monumental it was for her to release it.

Phy Ngetich Releases Brand New Video and It Is Everything!

One million shillings and a recording contract later, Phy proves she’s definitely worth the hype with each song she drops.

This petite emcee with a golden voice starred in Maisha Superstar, had a run in Airtel Trace Music Star later going on to work under King Kaka.

She’s barely been on the scene two years yet Khaligraph Jones and Tim Rimbui are already two stars synonymous with her name.

Having taken to social media this whole week to tease a release of what would be a more slow tempo single than her last, Phy has now officially dropped it.

Shot perfectly in black and white, listen (and watch) as she sings about forbidden love (taboo) all while walking you down the streets of Nairobi.

Airtel Trace Music Star is back! Why You Should Get In

Our music industry is not getting any easier to get into to thanks to the number of artists and competition already existing.

So, you love to sing? Know you can be the next big thing? And perhaps most important, you hate the thought of standing in stupendously long audition queues? Then this is for you.

With rnb diva Keri Hilson taking over from Akon and with up to KSH 1.5 million for grabs (not to mention a chance at a Keri Hilson collabo) there are definitely many reasons you should participate.

The completion kicks off in exactly 36 days (from today April 21st) and how you entre is by following these three easy steps.
