Revealed! Wizkid Truly Did Write Drakes No.1 Hit ‘One Dance’

One dance id a song that really took the word by storm and had fans immediately making covers, downloading and sharing it making it chart the billboard top 100 for weeks. A lot of praise went to both the artists but it has finally been revealed who was the real brains behind the hit. *drum rolls please*

Wizkid!

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced that Wizkid did indeed write the hit song.

Not able to contain his excitement, Wizkid took to social media and said,

“This came in last night! Big up my bro @champagnepapi for letting me work on this!! More Drake x Wizkid on the way!! 😈.”

There were speculations that the song sounded like a Wizkid kind of song and therefore Wizkid wrote the song. Wizkid however denied writing the song, instead he gave credit to the Canadian rapper.

Wizkid Teams Up With Drake For ‘Hush Up The Silence’

Wizkid has been on a roll releasing hit after hit and now, the Starboy has teamed up yet again with Drake to release ‘Hush up the silence’. Their ‘One dance’ collaboration scored Wiz a gammy nomination and topped music charts when it was released.

Wizkid had teased earlier in October through twitter saying, “6god x Real Starboy about to school everybody.” Since then, Wiz has teased upcoming collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign and DJ Mustard. “Me and the brudda Ty made more bangers with DJ Mustard,” he wrote. “2017 will be a special one!!”

Wiz Kid Gets His First Ever Grammy Nomination

Wiz Kid can’t get any luckier this year.

The Nigerian pop star has received his first Grammy nomination all thanks to featuring in Drake’s “One Dance”. Okay, maybe we expected him to get a whole lot more since ‘One Dance’ was such a hit but his ONLY selection is for featuring on Drake’s rap album, Views.

Views was nominated in the album of the year category, competing against other award winning artistes like Adele, Beyonce, and Justin Bieber.

In case you’re wondering why Wiz Kid is nominated yet it’s Drake’s album, The Grammy Award for album of the year is presented to the main artist, the featured artist(s), the producer, the engineer and/or mixer and the mastering engineer.

Wizkid has had a tremendous year with top notch awards credited to him.

Worthy of mentions are his Bill Board appearance as the first Nigerian to emerge on that list, MTV Europe Music Awards (Best African Act), 2016 MAMA awards (Best African Act), 2016 MOBO Awards, AFRIMA awards, the Headies (Nomination), and just recently, his appearance on the Grammy Awards among others.

Beyonce led with the most Grammy nominations this year while Drake, Adele, Chance The Rapper, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Rihanna followed suit.

Drake Breaks Yet Another Record

Drake has had a pretty great year, thanks to his Views album.

Spotify has just released its annual list of the most popular artists, albums, and tracks for 2016, and Drake tops the list for the second consecutive year.

The rapper has over 4.7 billion streams (more than doubling his 1.8 billion from last year), making him the most streamed artist of all time on Spotify with over 8.7 billion streams.

VIEWS not only gave Drake his first No. 1 solo single with “One Dance,” the album also set a record for the most streams on Apple Music and became the highest-selling album of the year, with 1.03 million copies sold so far.

Bieber and Rihanna, meanwhile, faired well for themselves, ranking second and third on both the international top artists list and the most streamed albums list, respectively.

For the second year in a row, Rihanna dominated the most-streamed female artist category, ahead of Ariana Grande, Sia, Adele, and Fifth Harmony.

Former One Directioner Zayn Malik, referred to by his stage name Zayn, was named Spotify’s breakout artist for 2016.

First Sia, Now Drake Releases Four Consecutive New Songs

If you didn’t know, yesterday was Drake’s birthday where he turned 30. Prior to this, he dropped four songs: two birds, one stone, sneakin, fake love, wanna know. Sia also did the same thing a few days ago.

“Fake Love” was the final track Drake played on the birthday episode of OVO Sound Radio. Like “Two Birds One Stone” and “Sneakin’,” a collab with 21 Savage, it will appear on & nbsp.”Two Birds One Stone” is Drake being lyrical, “Sneakin'” is him being hard, and “Fake Love” is him going pop with no abandon.

However, the song ‘two birds one stone’ has gotten a lot of criticism since it’s release because of some of the lyrics included. Some of these lyrics seem to almost mock Kid Cudi who recently checked himself in a rehab facility because he was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. They go:

You were the man on the moon
Now you just go through your phases
Life of the angry and famous
Rap like I know I’m the greatest
Then give you the tropical flavors
Still never been on hiatus
You stay xanned and perked up
So when reality set in you don’t gotta face it

Whether they are aimed at Kid Cudi for sure or not is something Drake himself has yet to confirm. He is also set to release an album dubbed ‘More life’ in December.

Kenyan Rendition to Drake’s ‘One Dance’ as Performed on HBR’s #WBWR

He is a young singer fighting for a chance to have his big moment on the music scene and given the kind of music he’s been doing, that moment is soon approaching.

As is the norm on HBR’s weekend show ‘Weekend Breakfast With Rae’ (#WBWR for short), up and coming singers get a platform to showcase their musical prowess by means of acoustic renditions of some of their (and our) favorite jams.

A month ago, I had the most amazing time hanging out with Gachago who though being ‘up and coming’ has already recorded a single with seasoned star Gilad.

In the company of just his guitar, Gachago covered a barrage of popular hit singles including Drake’s ‘One Dance’ and Sauti Sol’s ‘Mama Papa’.

We talked music as he talked about not limiting himself to just one genre and so while I’m particularly eager to see what this diverse and vastly capable singer brings to the table this year, here is his acoustic rendition to Drake’s ‘One Dance’.

That was shot and produced by Nyota Nyeupe Production. Look forward to plenty more exciting musical renditions on our YouTube channel (subscribe for up to date notifications) as well as on the show which is on Saturdays and Sundays from 6am to 9am.

Micasa’s J Something Goes ‘Under Cover’ with Drake’s ‘One Dance’ (Clips)

Under Cover:  A feature on Homeboyz Radio’s ‘Weekend Breakfast with Rae’ show which is all about acoustic renditions to popular jams.

Multiple covers to this jam are already online but imagine my pleasant surprise when I found this beautiful short acoustic rendition done by Mi Casa’s J Something.

Drake’s ‘One Dance’ was and just might remain the song of the moment and J Something, decided to get on his guitar and bless his IG followers with what might be the best thing you’ll watch all day.

Drake Gets His First No 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Thanks To His Wizkid Collabo ‘One Dance’

‘Views’ is evidently the album of the season!

That’s right. Move over Beyonce because it’s Drake’s turn to rule the charts. Though not the first time for Drake to get a taste of what it’s like to get a number one on Billboard Hot 100, it is his first number one as a lead artist and it is pretty awesome that it’s thanks to his Wizkid featured jam ‘One Dance’.

The previous two times that Drake has managed to secure the top spot, it’s been thanks to songs he did with Rihanna. Their jam ‘Work’ held that spot and years earlier, so did ‘What’s My Name’.

Here’s a look at the Official Billboard Hot 100: Top 10.
