Diplo Details One Of His Most Difficult DJing Gig

He is one third of iconic crew Major Lazer.

Diplo is a name synonymous to big hits and this beat maestro recently opened up about a gig he and fellow Major Lazer crew members had to host in Lagos Nigeria.

As reported on MTV Base, Diplo’s recent interview on GQ magazine has him detailing an outdoor festival in Lagos where the sound reportedly blew during a thunderstorm forcing him to banter with the crowd for a good hour while they attempted to kickstart the sound again.

The deejay and producer who’ has pretty much gigged in most of the world, described that gig as one of the hardest yet, recalling explaining to Walshy fire (fellow Major Lazer member) that Nigeria is where you live for die as a deejay, likening it to a ‘deejay Olympics’.

Diplo was recently starred as a male video vixen in the now viral video to Charlie XCX’s ‘Boys’ alongside industry heavy weights Charlie Push, Ty Dollar $ign, Wiz Khalifa, Mark Ronson among others.

Here’s the exclusive one on one G Money had with Walshy Fire on HBR weekday breakfast show GMITM (G Money in the morning).

Bamboo Drops New Music and Weighs In On The ‘Naija Music’ Convo

Bamboo was today’s (Tuesday July 4th) music room guest and over and above rating new music out of 10 (as is the norm on music room Tuesdays), he dropped a brand new jam and talked about many other things including music, life, family and being labeled a ‘gospel musician’.

To address the latter, Bamboo who very publicly became born again and was largely perceived to be a gospel musician who was, last we heard, working on a gospel album, said he’d rather not be labeled as a gospel artist because that would be ‘putting him in a box’.

After spending some time away in West Africa, it seems this rapper made a few new friends and had enough time to get in the booth them which is how this new jam of his came about.

The new single ‘Aiyayayaya’ (which you can listen to below) was exclusively previewed on Mwalimu Rachel’s #Class124 show is a good feel and uptempo jam which features Bamboo’s signature flow.

Bamboo who spent some time in Nigeria cited a few differences between our music industry and the largest one to him being the fact that they (Naija people) show a whole lot more love for their own artists than we, (Kenyan people) show to our own.

A lot has been said and written about this emcee who at one point was rumored to be engaged to a Ugandan preacher named Erica who at one point met Satan through an awkward interaction with Ugandan singer Chameleon.

Yeah the things you’ll read about online.

Bamboo weighed in on a lot more than just music, letting us in on just how close he is with his famous sister Victoria Kimani saying “we’re not just close cause we’re family but she is like one of the boys”.

His brand new jam might be a lead up to a music compilation and to find out about that you should definitely be on our radar.

Kilimall Turns To Local Brands To Expand Market

Online shopping mall Kilimall projects to grow its business three times over the next two years, riding on the rising wave of e-commerce in Kenya.

According to its two-year strategic plan, the company seeks to double it’s market this year and triple it by end of 2018.

Kilimall Managing Director Victor Ma said that business had grown by over 300 percent in the last two years, with customers crossing the one million mark by close of December 2016.

Releasing its second phase growth plan today, Mr Ma said growth
will be accelerated by bringing on board local brands and expanding markets outside Nairobi.

He said Bata Shoe Company is already selling its footwear products on Kilimall, being the first local brand to sign up, as well as Ramtons, a popular household electronics brand in Kenya.

He said Kilimall, which has expanded to Uganda and Nigeria, plans to bring on board other popular brands locally such as LG, Samsung and Hotpoint.

“We want to have a balance between local and foreign brands in our second phase of growth,” said Mr Ma. “There is a significant section of Kenyan shoppers who want to buy local brands online.”

He said Kilimall had expanded its market outside Nairobi from 10 percent to 25 percent and expects to grow it further as internet penetration deepens in rural towns.

Mr Ma said Kilimall is working with international manufacturers to tailor-make products such as phones and fashion wear to Kenyan tastes.

Kilimall Marketing Manage Gladys Liu said trust in online transactions is still low, which has forced many online retailers to use the pay-on- delivery service.

She noted, however, that from a trust rate of 10 percent two years ago, 40 percent of Kenyans now have confidence transacting online.

Mark Zuckerberg Hits Nigeria In First Africa Visit

In his first visit to sub Saharan Africa, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is in Nigeria to listen and learn and take ideas back to Silicon Valley on how the social network can offer better support for tech development and entrepreneurship across the continent.

He is visiting a number of tech hotspots in Lagos as well as meeting with both partners and developers – and including in his trip an exploration of the Nollywood film industry.

The Silicon Valley of Nigeria was on of his first stops – where he interacted with a coding camp at the Co Creation Hub.

One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.

And of course, he has been detailing his journey on his Facebook page.

Video! Tiwa Savage Hangs Out With Jay Z

Now a week ago, I shared a few insights into Tiwa Savage’s then rumored Roc Nation deal.

Word started going around that the ‘Kele Kele’ singer was signed to Hovi Hov’s label when word of her meeting with Roc Nation representatives started to spread.

Tiwa had made news in the recent past thanks to her anything-but-pleasant split from husband/ former manager T Billz and this definitely puts her in a more positive light.

Click here to watch them hanging out.

Congratulations Tiwa!

It’s Official; Wizkid is On the Road with Chris Brown #OneHellOfaNightTour (Pic)

This is not the first time for Wizkid and Chris Brown to kick it together and on stage. The Naija star was one of the performers at Chris Brown’s Nigerian concert where he famously taught the star how to do the Azonto and Chris in turn taught the move to America when he appeared later that week on 106 & Park.

Now it’s Chris’ turn to sort of return the favor, this time, taking the ‘Ojuolegba’ singer on the road with him on his ‘One Hell of a Night Tour’.

Iyanya Isnt Done With East African Artists. Whats His Next Project?

Diamond and Iyanya worked together on a track before called Bum Bum a track that will definitely get you up and moving when and if you listen to it.

Looks like Iyanya is nowhere near done with East African artists because they have teamed up again on another track called Nakupenda and from the looks of it, the video, which they are working on, is nothing if not flashy.

The video is currently being shot in Lagos, Nigeria, by a popular cinematographer and while we can’t wait for this video to drop, check out some of the behind the scenes pictures that give you a little taste of how the video will be.  The video will even feature Iyanya’s sister.

Davido Denies Allegations: It Wasn’t Me!

Last week we reported that Davido may be a father very soon (full story here) but as it turns out, he denies this claims. These rumors were shot down by his rep who said that should the news persist then they will be going as far as demanding a paternity test!

Davido also made headlines when he posted a picture of himself and Diddy while he was in Miami, Florida, shooting what he says will be the biggest video of his career. He also posted a picture of himself and Wale.
