Artists Who’ve Featured The Most On Record of The Week

To be the artist whose single is featured on HBR’s ‘Record of the Week’ means that yours will be the week’s most played single but that it is also the week’s biggest banger!

While this week is the start of another year-full of ROTW’s, here are 3 artists that featured the most on ROTW last year.

Lil Uzi Vert

At only 23 years of age, Lil Uzi Vert (real name Symere Woods) is most known for his iconic line from hit single and former ROTW ‘XO LIF3 Tour’,

‘Push me to the edge, All my friends are dead’

Lil Uzi’s 2017 EP ‘Luv is Rage 2’ had two songs feature on ROTW and later returned to ROTW as a featured artist on Nav’s ROTW single ‘Wanted You’.

His three time stay on ROTW therefore included his own singles ‘XO Life Tour’, ‘The Way Life Goes’ and Nav’s ‘Wanted You Single.

J Hus

We’ve loved him since his bass heavy single ‘Friendly that features hilarious catchy lyrics like…

Ey, why you don’t grind, you no like money?
We spend money like we no like money
She love a ugly man making pretty money
And I’m a ugly man making sexy money

Well this UK emcee had a great success with his debut album ‘Common Sense’ which features two of the tracks that were on ROTW in 2017, ‘Common Sense’ and ‘Did You See’.

J Hus also had other massive hits come out last year like ‘Spirit’ but it was the Dre Skull & Popcaan featured remix to his earlier track ‘Bouff Daddy’ that rounded his stay at ROTW to three.

Ty Dolla $ign

He was this year’s international act at the Jameson Connect party and when he isn’t producing for major artists like he did the theme track to hit movie Suicide Squad ‘Sucker For Pain’, he is making his own incredible hits like ‘Ex’.

Featured off of his compilation ‘Beach Life 3’, ‘Ex’ was one of three other jams of his that made it onto ROTW, the other two being features his made on singles with Kid Ink (F With U) and Fat Joe/Remy Ma (Money Showers).

Looks like the longest run for any artist to have featured on a ROTW for a whole year has been three times and we now look forward to seeing if this record gets broken in 2018… and more interestingly, by whom.

Nav Makes a Debut On ROTW With ‘Wanted You’

It’s US rapper Nav’s first stay at the ROTW (Record of the Week) but this will be Lil Uzi’s fourth feature on it having had a successful two time run with his own singles and once on Migos’s ‘Bad and Boujee’.

Complex magazine dubbed him, ‘first brown boy to get it poppin’, describing him as ‘brown’ presumably due to his Indian descent and one striking thing about him is his close resemblance to DJ Khaled. Am I wrong?

Khaled actually co-produced this ROTW (Wanted You) alongside producers Ben Billions and Cash so while we enjoy bumping to yet ‘another one’ from this music maestro, here’s a bit more about Nav.

Born and raised in Canada (to two Indian parents), Nav would create music mash ups in high school, later deciding to create his own beats, which is where his road to fame started.

“I became, like, pretty much the coolest kid in high school because I had started making beats for local rappers,”

Fast forward to today, this fast rising rapper is creating waves with this ‘Wanted You’ single which features Trap Icon Lil Uzi Vert, a song where Nav raps about falling for the wrong kind of girl.

It takes over from Jacquees and Dej Loaf as ROTW this week, here’s a look at Wanted You.

Post Malone Makes a Debut on #ROTW

Post Malone and 21 Savage are the definition of new school rap and with how high their individual singles have been charting, they are definitely worth a closer look.

With a sophomore album underway, Post Malone whose Quavo featured ‘Congratulations’, was a top track at HBR has only just released this single that is said to be the first off of his ‘Beerbongs and Bentleys’ album.

What’s even more interesting, is that Post Malone takes over a week after his collaboration mate Lil Uzi was on #ROTW for his single ‘The Way Life Goes’.

Featuring his iconic hard flow, listen as these two (Post Malone and Lil Uzi Vert) next generation rappers take over as HBR’s top played single which is said to be representative of how his highly anticipated album will sound like.

Visual: Fabolous x Lil Uzi Vert – ‘Goyard Bag’

NY rap legend Fabolous gives his “Goyard Bag” collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert the official visual treatment today.

Directed by Gerard Victor and Spike Jordan, the visual opens with Uzi in a dingy hotel room with two ladies, packing clothes into a Goyard bag. As they leave, they bump into a group of men with a similar duffel and a switch happens. When the men arrive at Fablo Freshcobar’s hotel room, they open the bag to show cash, but there’s a surprise. All they see is clothes.

To close out the video, Fab and Uzi rap in front of a car in flames. And though it looks like that’s the end of it all, it’s actually “to be continued” in another video.

“Goyard Bag,” which samples OutKast’s “Liberation,” appeared on Fab’s Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up mixtape last year. Fabulous and Jadakiss are putting together a joint project titled “Freddy vs. Jason,” which doesn’t have an official release date yet. Meanwhile, Vert just released his 4 track EP Luv Is Rage 1.5 and is prepping the release of Luv Is Rage 2.

Lil Uzi Vert Drops Four New Tracks

Lil Uzi Vert has just dropped four new songs on SoundCloud today titled “Boring Shit,” “LUV Scars K.o 1600” “XO TOUR Llif3″ and “YSL.”

The tracks all play off the record labels of Young Thug and The Weeknd, as well as obscure references to love scars and being bored. Listen to the four new tracks below.

Judging from the “1.5” tag on each track title, Luv Is Rage 2 might be dropping in the near future. The Philly rapper also recently received an award from SoundCloud for gaining the most followers last year.

New Music: Ralo – ‘Young Ni**a’ x Young Thug x Lil Yachty x Lil Uzi Vert

Ralo and Thugger kick it with back-and-forth flows. “Young ni**a fly like propellers,” raps Thugga, while Ralo adds, “Young ni**a stacking up vegetables.”

Over Ricky Racks’ production, Lil Yachty delivers sharp spite for detractors. “I do commercials, I’m so controversial,” he raps. “Every time they see me, they hatin’ / They hate when I win, but they love when I sin / These ni**as gon’ wake the man that’s within.”

Although billed as a guest artist, Uzi Vert doesn’t have a verse on the track. Instead, he delivers ad-libs throughout.

“Young Thug is a real life gangster and he’s supported me since the beginning,” Ralo told Complex. “Him and I were in the studio and he introduced me to Lil Uzi and he started ad-libbing the hook and the song came together.

“I really wanted Lil Yachty on this song because I said something about him in an interview that was wrong,” Ralo added. “I apologized about it because I didn’t even know him at the time. Collaborating with guys like Thug and Yachty helped me to break into the blogs and mainstream media. I already had the streets locked.”

“Young Ni**a” is a single off Ralo’s forthcoming Famerican Gangster 2. Out February 12th, the project features Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Birdman, YFN Lucci, and Shy Glizzy.

New Music: RizzooRizzoo x Lil Uzi Vert – “Game Over”

This Houston and Philly connect isn’t the first. RizzooRizzoo and Lil Uzi teamed up for an impressive showing on “LFUTP.”  And now they’re back at it again on this new cut aptly titled “Game Over.”

“Look at my chain on that b*tch I swear that is on froze/Look at my mouth in that snow/All of my paper is hunnits, I count my money with my eyes closed/ Swervin’ in a Range Rover/Switchin’ lanes in a Range Rover,” Lil Uzi Vert raps on the 1st verse with his signature style of delivery.

RizzooRizzoo drops an ad-lip filled verse, “You f*ck with me then it’s over/ Tony Montana we global/ I cannot f*ck with no local/ My name is all on the poster/ My b*tch keep a gun in her coat/ I cannot go back to broke.”

The Jrag2x-produced banger is one of the standout singles off Rizzoo’s new Drip Flair EP that released yesterday and there are plenty more hot tracks on the project.

New Visual: A$AP Ferg feat. Lil Uzi Vert & Marty Baller – ‘Uzi Gang’

A$AP Ferg, Lil Uzi Vert, and Marty Baller deliver a punk rock-inspired music video for “Uzi Gang.”

Shot in monochrome, the Adam Degross directed visual finds the  rappers surrounded by punk rockers enthralled in the slam dancing fury of mosh pits.

“I wanted to shoot a visual that would capture the feeling of the song,” Ferg told Noisey. “So I linked with photographer and good friend of mine Adam Degross to help me bring this picture perfect visual alive!”

Degross is a photographer who specializes in live concert portraits. Although many of his subjects are in the punk rock realm, Degross also shoots rappers like ScHoolboy Q, 21 Savage and Young Thug.

“I put my everything into this, and I tried to make something very unique,” said Degross. “This is my first music video, I went into this not knowing where I’d end up, but I think we made something special. Don’t let anyone say you can’t do something, I’m living proof.”

“Uzi Gang” is a single off the Trap Lord’s sophomore album Always Strive and Prosper. Uzi also joined Ferg on “Runner” off A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 1.

Lil Uzi Vert Has Been In the Studio with Kanye West

It’s been a breakout year for Lil Uzi Vert. The Philly rapper has become one of 2016’s most-buzzed-about newcomers, and 2017 is looking even brighter.

After collaborating with the likes of Gucci Mane and Wiz Khalifa, Uzi revealed that he has been in the lab with Kanye West. In a new interview with DJ Whoo Kid that was filmed three weeks ago but released yesterday, the 22-year-old  rapper revealed that he has recently spent time working with Kanye West.

“I’ve been working with Kanye,” he told DJ Whoo Kid on The Whoolywood Shuffle.

“He drop gems on you without—he don’t even know,” explained Uzi. “He’s just talking and he’s dropping gems. He’s very intelligent.”

Later in the interview, Whoo Kid asks Uzi if by working with Kanye, he has switched up his style or approach to making music. “I’m not going to say I switched my style up as of now, but of course Kanye helped my style in general,” he said.

In between recording with Kanye, the “Money Longer” MC continues to work on his next project, Luv Is Rage 2, which follows last year’s Luv Is Rage. As for Kanye, the list of new school artists he’s worked with in 2016 seems to increase every week. Lil Uzi Vert now joins a lineup that includes Migos, Desiigner, and Lil Yachty.
