Fit Tuesday: How to Lose Weight Without Exercising

Let’s admit it, we love shortcuts, especially when it comes to weight loss! Sticking to a diet plan and exercising can be pretty difficult. Before I give you some tips on how you can mindlessly lose weight without exercising, let me make one thing clear.

If you are all about losing that excess fat, you have to exercise! Plus exercising is freaking awesome! (at least once you put your mind to it). Exercising is merely just the icing on the cake when it comes to losing weight. 90% of your weight loss battle is lost or won in the kitchen, restaurant, drive-thru..etc.

If you’re up for it, here are a few tips on how you can mindlessly lose weight by reducing your calorie intake:

1 Use smaller plates for unhealthy foods

The typical food plate is larger today than it was a few decades ago. The result, we eat a whole lot more. To limit the amount of food you consume, choose to use a smaller plate since it may help you eat less by making portions look larger. It’s just about tricking your brain into thinking you are eating more than you actually are.

2 Eat plenty of protein

Protein has powerful effects on appetite. It can increase the feeling of fullness, reduce hunger therefore help you eat fewer calories. Research shows that adding protein to your diet has been shown to cause automatic weight loss without exercise or conscious calorie restriction.

3 Eat slowly and chew thoroughly

Yap this one does work! A recent review of 23 observational studies reported that faster eaters are more likely to gain weight, compared to slower eaters. Your brain needs time to process that you’ve had enough to eat. Chewing your food better makes you eat more slowly, which is associated with decreased food intake, increased fullness and smaller portions.

4 Eat fiber rich foods

You’ve probably heard this before. Eating fiber-rich foods may increase satiety, helping you feel fuller for longer. Bottom line, you will end up eating less food.

5 Make water your regular go to drink

It’s often said that water is life, which is true. Besides all the other benefits of water, drinking water can actually help you eat less and lose weight, especially if you drink it before a meal. If you replace calorie-loaded drinks — such as soda or juice — with water, you may experience an even greater effect.

6 Store unhealthy foods out of sight

You know what they say, out of sight, out of mind. Storing unhealthy foods where you can see them may increase hunger and cravings, causing you to eat more. You can also avoid buying unhealthy foods altogether just to help you avoid them.
