  • Nakuru Miss Rugby Playoffs, Machine Relegated After 40 Years

Nakuru RFC missed the Kenya Cup playoffs berth despite beating Mean Machine 21-12 in their last match of the league at Nakuru Athletics Club over the weekend.

Nakuru went to the game placed seventh with 43 points and a position off the final playoff sixth spot held by Mwamba who had a three point advantage.

As they went for a win, Nakuru hoped KCB would do them a favor and beat Mwamba – and that happened – but in their win over Machine they will rue missing out on a bonus point that would have secured them a playoff  spot.

Though beaten 25-18 at Lions Den, Mwamba earned a vital bonus losing point to tie Nakuru on 47 points to go through on point difference of +115 compared to +64 for Wanyore

Mean Machine and Western Bulls were relegated from Kenya Cup after losing to Top Fry Nakuru and Kabras Sugar in season-enders.

Machine, who go down after 40 years in the Kenya Cup, lost 21-12 to Nakuru and will now take part in Kenya’s second tier rugby league, championship, in 2017/2018.

The University of Nairobi side who were rugby giants back in the day alongside Nondies went into the last match day needing to beat Nakuru and hope Blak Blad and Western Bulls fell to Impala and Kabras respectively but that didn’t go their way.

Western Bulls, promoted to the Kenya Cup in 2011, went down after failing to beat defending champions Kabras Sugar. They lost 30-14 to Kabras.
